Volkswagen Group increased electric vehicle deliveries by 47 per cent in the first half of the year
The Volkswagen Group has reported an increase in global deliveries of electric vehicles: from January to June, the company delivered 465,500 electric cars to customers, which is 47 per cent more than in the same period in 2024. Excluding commercial vehicles - 464,200 cars. In total, the concern delivered 4.41 million vehicles of all types, which is 1.3% more than last year's result, but it was the BEV segment that became the engine of growth.

In Europe, the results are even more impressive: +89% and 347,900 electric vehicles in six months. By comparison, Tesla globally reduced deliveries by 14% to 384,000 vehicles in the first half of the year. In Europe, the US company sold just 76,400 cars between January and May, while the Volkswagen brand sold 122,600 electric cars in the same period, according to Dataforce.
According to the report, both brands showed similar results in March, but in other months VW was far ahead of Tesla - in April, for example, almost three times.
For Volkswagen, this is not only an image breakthrough, allowing it to distance itself from the legacy of the diesel scandal, but also a step towards compliance with strict EU environmental regulations. However, as Handelsblatt notes, the sales growth was made possible largely due to aggressive discounts, especially on the ID.3 hatchback, which is affecting profitability.
According to one of the concern's top managers, the company makes money on electric cars, but the operating margin remains below the 6.5 per cent target for 2029. VW expects to improve performance with the release of more affordable models such as the ID.2 and Cupra Raval, which will go on sale as early as next year.
