Apple TV+ has officially given the green light to the second season of Murderbot, the science fiction series based on Martha Wells' books (The Murderbot Diaries). The renewal came even before the final episode of the first season was released, indicating Apple's high confidence in the project.

The plot of Murderbot revolves around a cybernetic bodyguard with broken obedience protocols, who prefers to avoid interacting with humans, but constantly finds himself involved in saving their lives. Alexander Skarsgård plays the lead role, with Chris and Paul Weitz serving as showrunners.

The second season is expected to screen the next book in the series, Artificial Condition, where Murderbot continues his journey as he tries to make sense of his own identity, origins and a strange sense of responsibility to people he doesn't seem to like very much.

Apple TV+ is banking on sci-fi content with character, and the Murderbot extension is part of that strategy, along with projects like Silo, Foundation, and the upcoming Neuromancer.
