Return of a legend: Commodore unveils retro computer for those who miss the 80s aesthetic

Commodore was one of the pioneers of home computers. In the 80s and 90s their devices were extremely popular, especially in the US and Western Europe, but with the advent of Windows and expanding competition, Commodore products quickly became irrelevant.

However, in 2025, the Commodore brand was revived and introduced the first "computer" in 30 years.

Here's What We Know

The device was named Commodore 64 Ultimate and will delight retro enthusiasts.

Commodore 64 Ultimate can hardly be called a computer in the modern sense, which is eloquently confirmed by 128 MB (let's emphasise megabytes, not gigabytes) of RAM and visual emphasis on the aesthetics of the 80s.

The device uses an FPGA board with an AMD Artix 7 chip and is compatible with all games and cartridges created for the original Commodore. Games can be installed via Wi-Fi and original cartridges.

The Commodore 64 Ultimate provides many ports, including Ethernet.

Several variants of the device are available, including a model with a transparent case and backlight. It comes with an HDMI cable and a USB stick with games.

The base Commodore 64 Ultimate model is priced at $299. Buyers will receive their devices closer to the end of the year.
