Mitsubishi has unveiled a new three-row SUV and it's not the Pajero
Mitsubishi expands its SUV range: a new Destinator model, designed specifically for South-East Asian countries, has made its debut in Indonesia. Despite the external similarity with camouflaged Pajero prototypes, it is a completely different car.
Here's What We Know
The novelty is built on a front-wheel-drive platform from the Xforce model and is the production incarnation of last year's DST concept. The Destinator is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol turbo four with 163bhp and 250Nm. It is paired with a variator (CVT), the drive is exclusively on the front wheels.
Despite this, the model has five driving modes, increased ground clearance and adapted suspension - everything for comfortable driving on bad roads and in difficult weather conditions. From the outside, Destinator retained the aggressive look of the concept with a large grille, narrow LED optics and relief body. However, more simple bumpers, mirrors and lights went into production, and 18-inch discs visually seem small for such a body.
Dimensions of the model - 4680 mm in length and 2815 mm wheelbase, which is a little shorter than Outlander, but 110 mm longer on the base. Inside there are three rows of seats for seven people and plenty of storage niches. The boot volume is not revealed, but with the second and third row seats folded down, there is an impressive space.
The interior has been simplified compared to the concept, with an 8-inch digital dashboard and a 12.3-inch multimedia screen combined into a single glossy surface. The architecture is reminiscent of the Xforce, although the centre console has been slightly redesigned. The equipment list includes a premium Yamaha audio system, atmospheric lighting, panoramic sunroof and a suite of electronic assistants.
The Destinator will make its public debut on 23 July at the GIIAS motor show in Jakarta. Sales will start in Indonesia, and later the model will be released in ASEAN, South Asia, Latin America, Middle East and Africa. Assembly will start at Mitsubishi Krama Yudha plant in Indonesia.
