The certification application to China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has revealed the specifications of the first model of Huawei's new car brand - Shangjie. Following this, the manufacturer published official photos of the novelty. The mid-size crossover Shangjie H5 will debut in China in September.

Here's What We Know

Huawei announced the Shangjie brand in April. It is the company's fifth car brand under the Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA). The other four are Aito, Luxeed, Stelato and premium Maextro

Shangjie is positioned as a low-cost brand and targets a young audience. It is expected that later the Shangjie brand will get a more sound English-sounding name - currently a phonetic transcription from Chinese is used. The production of the cars is handled by SAIC.

Shangjie H5 will be available in two versions - with all-electric powertrain (BEV) and with range extender (EREV). The electric version will be able to travel up to 655 kilometres on the CLTC cycle, EREV - up to 1300 kilometres. Both versions will get the advanced Huawei ADS 4 driver assistance system with lidar mounted above the windscreen.

Dimensions of the crossover: length - 4780 mm, width - 1910 mm, height - 1657 mm, wheelbase - 2840 mm. There are five seats in the cabin.

According to MIIT, the electric version will be available with two powertrain options: one 150kW electric motor coupled with an LFP battery, and another at 180kW with an NMC-type battery. Both batteries are supplied by CATL, while the motors are SAIC developments. The capacity of the batteries has not yet been disclosed.

The EREV version will have a 150 kW electric motor and a 1.5-litre petrol engine with an output of 72 kW, which acts as a generator.

According to preliminary data, the price of the base version will be about 145 thousand yuan (about $20,200).
