The iconic American Ford Bronco SUV has become an electric car, but only for China for now
Two electrified versions of the Ford Bronco have been unveiled in China - an all-electric version and an all-electric hybrid with range extender (EREV). Production will be undertaken by a joint venture between Ford and Jiangling Motors (JMC), and the production will be launched in the province of Jiangxi.
Here's What We Know
While Ford China has limited itself to a few teaser images of the new models, key specifications have become known thanks to certification by the Ministry of Industry and Informatisation of the People's Republic of China (MIIT).
The electric version is a five-seater SUV with a length of 5025 mm and a wheelbase of 2950 mm. Curb weight is 2630kg. All-wheel drive: 130 kW motor at the front and 202 kW at the rear (232 kW or 311 hp in total). Top speed is 170 km/h.
The Bronco EV is powered by a 105.4 kWh LFP battery made by BYD. According to the Chinese CLTC cycle, the range is up to 650 kilometres. Lidar is also noticeable on the roof, indicating advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
The range-extending hybrid, the Bronco EREV, gets the same front electric motor and a 180 kW rear motor. A 1.5-litre 110 kW petrol engine is fitted on top. It is not connected to the wheels and works solely as a generator.
The battery capacity of the EREV version is 43.7 kWh, which is enough for 220 kilometres on electric power. Taking into account the internal combustion engine, the total mileage can reach 1220 kilometres. Curb weight is 2510 kg.
The premiere on the Chinese market is expected in the fourth quarter of 2025, export outside China is not yet confirmed.
