Who would have thought that a remake of Lilo and Stitch would be such a huge success? What seemed like a modest project has officially turned into a billion-dollar monster movie, becoming the first in Hollywood to cross that monumental mark this year.

Here's What We Know

The remake comes at an extremely good time. Recently, there were reports that Disney was considering a change of tactics and a relaxation of its policy on updating its classic live-action films, especially after the box office failure of Snow White.

However, Experiment 626 proved that audiences are ready to embrace remakes of their favourite hits: the film, directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, grossed $341 million in its first weekend. After that, ticket sales continued to grow rapidly, leading to reports that Disney is already actively considering a sequel.

The next big "risk" for Disney will be to see if the Moana remake gets the same level of attention. Announced back in 2023, this news caused a strong reaction on the Internet. The biggest concern was that Disney was returning to one of its most recent successes instead of looking deeper into its library of projects.
