Chris Harris, a well-known motoring columnist and former Top Gear presenter, found himself at the centre of a bit of drama: his classic BMW M5 (E28) was stolen right off the street. But Harris had to ask his Instagram followers for help and the car was quickly recovered.

Here's What We Know

The TV presenter has almost 900 thousand followers only in Instagram. In the early hours of 21 July, he reported that his M5 was stolen overnight near Clifton, Bristol. "Please help me find it. This car has been with me for 19 years," Harris wrote. Just three hours after the post, a follower reported that he seemed to have found the car.

Harris drove to the location and upon arrival saw his car parked at the curb on a residential street. A subscriber named Lee was also waiting there, promising to stay by the car until Harris arrived.

The hijackers didn't do much ceremony: they damaged the ignition switch and smashed the disc. But against the background of the possible removal of the car to the other side of the world or dismantling for parts - this is still an easy outcome. Harris said he was incredibly happy to have his car back.

There was hardly any petrol left in the tank, but the M5 still started, and from the sound of it, the engine was fine.
