Hints of a new Metro: Is 4A Games preparing something big for Gamescom 2025?

It's been a long time since the last Metro game was released - if you don't count last year's VR spin-off Metro Awakening. Metro Exodus was released in early 2019, and although we know that 4A Games is working on the next game in the series, no one knows what it will look like. Nevertheless, fresh hints from the studio's official accounts make fans build theories about an imminent announcement.

Here's What We Know

Back in 2023, Insider Gaming exclusively reported that the Metro Exodus sequel was "fully playable", but little has been revealed since then. Now, new posts on the 4A Games Twitter account are forcing fans to build crazy theories about the imminent announcement.

Gamescom 2025 will take place in less than a month, and it remains the largest and most ambitious gaming show in the world. The Opening Night Live ceremony, hosted by Geoff Keighley, is one of the most popular gaming events on the planet, and it's where the most exciting announcements and trailer premieres take place.

According to fans, this is where the next Metro game will be presented - on 19 August, during Opening Night Live.

In a post on the Metro subreddit, user Revendi posted screenshots of 4A Games' Twitter account, showing that a new social media manager had been hired after almost four months of radio silence. This employee immediately started actively posting content on the profile, making a comment that too many people took notice of:

"I can't wait for you to see what we're cooking up on this legendary ship."

Revendi also noted that this employee moved from Poland to Malta to work better with the team.

In the comments under the Metro-related posts, the new member of the communications team tries to temper expectations.

Logically speaking, it would make the most sense for 4A Games to appear at Gamescom with the first trailer for the next Metro game. Back in 2017, the team presented Metro Exodus at E3, and Gamescom is essentially the new E3. It is the biggest stage in the gaming industry and the perfect place to draw attention to the trailer, even if it will cost 4A Games (or, more precisely, Embracer) about $250,000.
