China's BYD has announced that it has reached another milestone: the 13 millionth New Energy Vehicle (NEV), which is the name given to all battery electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids in China, has rolled off the assembly line. The anniversary model was a premium sedan Yangwang U7.

Here's What We Know

Just eight months ago, in November 2024, BYD celebrated the release of its 10 millionth electric car - it was the Denza Z9 GT.

But back to the Yangwang U7. The sedan is offered in two versions: an all-electric car and a plug-in hybrid. The electric car is equipped with four motors with a total output of 960 kW (1,287 hp) and accelerates to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds. Top speed is 270 km/h. The CLTC range reaches 720 kilometres thanks to a 135.5 kW∙h battery. The length is 5,265 mm.

The plug-in hybrid is slightly longer at 5,360 mm. It uses the same four-motor scheme in combination with a 200 kW (268 hp) petrol 2.0-litre turbo motor. Such a setup is powered by a 52.4 kW∙h battery and a 60-litre fuel tank. The electric mileage is 200 kilometres and the total mileage is more than 1,000 kilometres.

The Yangwang U7 gets Disus-Z suspension with electromagnetic actuators, as well as the YiSiFang four-motor independent drive system. The rear wheels can turn up to 20 degrees, which reduces the turning radius to 4.85 metres.

The interior features symmetrical architecture with a 12.8-inch OLED screen in the centre, a digital 23.6-inch 3D-effect dashboard and an additional 23.6-inch screen in front of the passenger. The voice assistant recognises dialects and can even read lips, with a response delay of less than 300 milliseconds.

The Yangwang U7 is available in four- and five-seat configurations. The top-of-the-line four-seat version includes split seats with ventilation, heating and massage, two refrigerators and an entertainment system for rear passengers. Both versions feature a Dynaudio Platinum premium audio system.

In China, the Yangwang U7 costs from 628,000 yuan (about $87,500), while the flagship four-seat version is priced at 708,000 yuan (about $98,500).
