Toyota will start producing the bZ4X electric crossover in Indonesia
At the GIIAS 2025 motor show in Indonesia, Toyota announced the launch of local production of the updated bZ4X crossover. This will be the brand's first locally assembled electric vehicle.
Here's What We Know
Toyota has called the production of the bZ4X in Indonesia a strategic move to support the government's programme to accelerate the transition to electric vehicles. There is no word yet on the degree of localisation, but Toyota is expected to take into account existing tax incentives: according to local regulations, electric vehicles with a share of local components of 40% or more are subject to a VAT of just 1% instead of the standard 11%.
Once production starts, Toyota expects to reduce the cost of the bZ4X, as well as improve the service and spare parts situation.

According to Antara News, sales of the Indonesian bZ4X are scheduled to start by the end of 2025. The crossover will be available only in a version with front-wheel drive. In Europe, such modifications are available with batteries for 57.7 and 73.1 kW∙h. The range of the base version - up to 444 km, the older version - up to 568 km. Acceleration to 100 km/h takes 8.6 and 7.4 seconds, top speed - 140 and 160 km/h respectively.
In addition to the updated bZ4X, Toyota also showed a compact crossover Urban Cruiser EV at GIIAS. Its market debut could come soon after the launch of the Suzuki e Vitara in early 2026.
