Modular but fragile: the Fairphone 6 put to a tough test by tech blogger JerryRigEverything
Popular technoblogger JerryRigEverything (Zach Nelson) could not ignore the release of "eco-friendly" Dutch smartphone Fairphone 6, the main feature of which is a modular design with the ability to replace 12 components.
Here's What We Know
JerryRigEverything broke the usual order of manipulation and began immediately with the disassembly of the Fairphone 6. He was able to easily disconnect the battery - it took only a few screws and the author praised the gadget for its high repairability.
To assess the display, you need to pull it out a bit - a regular SIM tray paper clip will do. It was not difficult to separate the display cable and replace the USB-C port.
Fairphone 6 survived the "module transplant" without any problems and continued to work.
Zach Nelson highlighted an important nuance: support for the Fairphone 6 is almost unrealistic outside of Europe due to the weak representation of the brand.
Next, the blogger took on a durability test of the smartphone:
- A lighter fire left a large stain on the smartphone's screen;
- the display, protected by Gorilla Glass 7i, scratched at levels six and seven on the Mohs scale;
- the side edges scratch effortlessly;
- the smartphone's buttons can be easily pulled out of the case, but inserting them back in is problematic;
- unfortunately, the smartphone can be bent without problems.
To summarise, we note that the large selection of interchangeable units is a good decision, given the low durability of the device.
