Tesla has begun testing a new version of its Full Self Driving (FSD) Supervised system in London. This is part of the company's preparations for the launch of robotaxis and bringing FSD to Europe and China. Previous test runs have already taken place in Amsterdam, Paris, Rome, Berlin and Madrid, and now videos of trips from the UK have been published.

Here's What We Know

The footage shows a Model 3 Highland sedan fitted with standard equipment. Tesla emphasises that the car drove on its own on challenging routes in central London. The path, as the company notes, was full of roadworks, pedestrians, cyclists and heavy traffic.

Tesla paid particular attention to the Magic Roundabout in Swindon, a famous junction with five small circles around one large ring, which is considered one of the most challenging in the UK. FSD tackled this section by driving it three times in a row "to demonstrate flexibility" without making any dangerous manoeuvres.

"FSD (Supervised) adapted to traffic coming from different directions and showed the ability to cope with unpredictable situations," Tesla said.

The Full Self Driving system remains in "driver-controlled" status for now - meaning the person behind the wheel is required to monitor the car's behaviour at all times. While the system is already impressively capable, Tesla admits that it needs regulatory approval for a full launch in Europe and China. The version of FSD in use is still a test version and is not available to the general public.
