This year marks the 20th anniversary of the launch of the Canon EOS 5 series of cameras. The first model in this line, the EOS 5D, was introduced in September 2005 and became Canon's first semi-professional camera with a full-frame CMOS sensor.

Here's What We Know

Over the past two decades, Canon has released eight models in the EOS 5 series, gradually improving image performance, speed and functionality. In 2008, the EOS 5D Mark II was the first Canon DSLR to offer Full HD video recording. In 2012, the EOS 5D Mark III offered an updated autofocus and faster burst speeds.

In 2015, the company introduced the EOS 5Ds and 5Ds R with 50.6 megapixels, the highest resolution among full-frame DSLRs at the time.

In 2020, the brand switched to mirrorless cameras with the release of the EOS R5, which supports 8K video. The latest model in the series was the EOS R5 Mark II, released in August 2024, which received a new image processing system using deep learning.
