Photos of the location of MagSafe magnets in the new iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max have been leaked on the Chinese social network Weibo. The leak shows a photo of the location of the magnets for third-party cases, which differs from the usual solid circle: now there is a gap in the lower part, and an additional magnetic area is located outside the circle.

The Apple logo is located lower than in previous models due to the much larger camera unit. According to accessory manufacturers, existing MagSafe cases will remain compatible, as the additional magnetic area is outside the magnetic circuit of the old format.

An interesting fact is that the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air do not have a cutout in the magnetic circle. Perhaps this is only due to aesthetics - in the Pro and Pro Max models, the camera unit occupies the upper part of the back panel, and Apple decided to move the logo lower. The cutout in the magnetic circle will not obscure the "apple" on the back of the smartphone when using transparent cases. However, it would have been more logical to make such a gap only in transparent cases, keeping the magnets in the smartphone itself.

But the biggest mystery is the additional magnetic area at the bottom. The arrangement of the magnets in a circle made it impossible to attach the accessory obliquely. In addition, it was clearly not made for small round chargers. If there is no break in the circle on models with a small camera unit, then the additional area is present on the entire new model range. Apple will probably show some new device or use case at the presentation. We'll have to wait until the presentation in September to find out more.
