Opel has updated the powertrain range for the Astra and Astra Sports Tourer models. The plug-in hybrid has become slightly more powerful - now develops up to 144 kW (196 hp). The price has remained the same.

What is known

The system consists of a 1.6-litre petrol turbo engine with an output of 110 kW (150 hp) and an electric motor, which now has an output of 92 kW (125 hp) instead of the previous 81 kW. The maximum torque is 360 N-m.

Also new is an electrified seven-speed dual-clutch transmission specially developed for the increased power of the plug-in hybrid. It replaces the previous six-speed gearbox.

A key technical update concerns the battery pack: instead of 12.4 kW⋅h, the Astra now has a capacity of 17.2 kW⋅h. This increases the range of the models on electric power by 26 kilometres - up to 83 kilometres on the WLTP cycle. At the same time, fuel consumption has been reduced. Opel specifies a combined energy consumption of 12.7-13.1 kW⋅h and fuel consumption of 2.2-2.4 litres per 100 kilometres (average WLTP values).

Performance is in line with standard compact cars with hybrid drive: the Astra accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds, the Sports Tourer in 7.7 seconds. Top speed is 225 km/h.

Standard equipment includes an infotainment system with two 10-inch displays, wireless smartphone integration (Apple CarPlay/Android Auto) and keyless engine start. The Astra Plug-in Hybrid has a starting price of €38,460 in Germany, while the Sports Tourer is priced at €39,960.
