Potential buyers of the Tesla Model S or Model X in Europe can no longer order customised cars. Only stocks of already manufactured cars remain available.

Here's What We Know

The US carmaker has updated its European web pages, removing the option to order new cars and leaving only the option to buy a Model S or Model X from stock. Earlier this year, the company stopped production of the Model S and Model X in China, leaving Europe and North America as the largest markets for the two models.

Now that Europe is out, the U.S. and Canada remain the only major markets where the aging models are still available. Earlier this year, Tesla slightly updated the Model S and Model X, adding multi-colour interior lighting and a few other minor improvements. Prices have also increased at the same time.

For the past few years, Tesla has included the Model S and Model X in the same category as the Cybertruck pickup truck and Semi tractor-trailer in its production and delivery reports. Tesla delivered just 23,275 of these "Other Models" in the first half of the year, while the Model 3 and Model Y accounted for nearly 700,000 units.

The Model S and Model X appear to be nearing the end of their lifecycle, and it's probably only a matter of time before Tesla stops producing them completely. With the recent launch of the three-row Model Y in China, the much more expensive Model X is hard to explain to the typical car buyer, and the equally expensive Model S is currently nothing more than a niche product.
