DJI has officially launched sales of the PL Carbon and PL Carbon Pro electric bikes in the US through its subsidiary Amflow. The two new models are dual-suspension MTBs with a tech-fuelled design.

Here's What We Know

Both bikes are based on DJI's proprietary drive system called Avinox. It's a centre-drive platform that seems intent on squeezing out giants like Bosch, Shimano and Brose. The claimed figures bear this out: 105Nm of torque and up to 850W of peak power in a compact 2.5kg unit. And all this in a bike that weighs just 19.2kg (42.3lbs) in its lightest configuration.

The Avinox system is accompanied by a 2-inch OLED touchscreen display that shows speed and trip data. DJI has also added Bluetooth connectivity that allows you to adjust various settings via a proprietary app.

The 800Wh battery is coupled with a 500W fast charger that can charge the battery from 0 to 75 per cent in just 90 minutes. For the eMTB segment, this is a very good figure.

As you can guess from the name, the Amflow PL Carbon and PL Carbon Pro models have a carbon frame. Fox front suspension travel is 160mm and rear suspension travel is 150mm, making them suitable for all-season use on mountain trails or enduro style. Wheels are 29 inches at the front and 27.5 inches at the rear.

The PL Carbon starts at $7,499 and you'll have to shell out over $10,000 for the top-of-the-line PL Carbon Pro. Expensive. But it seems that with these electric bikes, DJI is promoting the Avinox system as a standalone product that other OEMs can use in the future.
