For the first time in several years Valve has significantly updated the built-in trailer player in Steam, making it more modern and user-friendly.

Here's What We Know

The developer has slightly redesigned the player's interface and improved its performance on PCs, smartphones and Steam Deck handheld consoles in Big Picture mode.

On the progress bar when rewinding the video will show a small thumbnail of the selected frame, and the transition to full-screen mode has become smooth.

Valve has transcoded about 400,000 videos and reduced the amount of traffic consumed when playing trailers. Videos are now available in four resolutions, which are automatically adjusted based on internet speed.

Trailers display correctly on screens with any aspect ratio.

Valve advises game developersto re-post old trailers, especially those released before 2020.

Fresh trailers are now automatically processed to the updated standard and marked with a special icon in Steamworks.
