The fastest American car on the Nürburgring is slower than a Porsche 911
Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X - officially recognised as the fastest American car at the legendary Nürburgring racetrack in Germany. With a lap time of 6:49.275 minutes, this 1,250-horsepower (1,267 metric horsepower) hybrid beat the Ford Mustang GTD by 2.8 seconds. It only placed fifth in the overall standings, though.
Here's What We Know
GM vehicle dynamics engineer Drew Cattell was behind the wheel of the Corvette ZR1X in the record-breaking 20.8-kilometre race. His best result is close, but still just behind the AMG GT Black, which posted a 2020 time of 6:48.047. And also the Porsche 911 GT2 RS (700bhp), which a year later did a lap in 6:43.3. Leading the pack is the AMG One hypercar, whose time of 6:29.09 set in 2023 is unlikely to be beaten anytime soon.
