Despite all the complaints about the new generation of the handheld console, Nintendo has reported that it has sold more than twice as many Switch 2s as it did in the first month of the Switch's launch. Since its launch in June, 5.82 million Switch 2 consoles have already been sold, compared to the original Switch's first month sales of 2.7 million. Although the Switch 2 was only launched on 5 June 2025, its sales have already set a new launch record in Nintendo's history with more than 3.5 million units sold in the first four days. There is still a shortage of consoles - in some countries, demand exceeds supply, which is why the console is not available for sale.

This success helped Nintendo increase its quarterly revenue by 132% to 572.3 billion yen (about $3.8 billion) in the period from April to June, compared to 246.6 billion yen (about $1.6 billion) in the same period last year. Nintendo says it expects to reach 15 million Switch 2 sales by the end of fiscal 2026, despite uncertainty due to political reasons. Donald Trump yesterday imposed a 20% tax on goods from Vietnam, where Nintendo assembles its consoles, which will ultimately raise the cost of the Switch 2, as the tax rate is currently 10%.

The first generation Switch continues to sell, reaching 153.1 million units sold, almost equalling the record of Nintendo's best-selling console of all time, the Wii U (154.02 units). It seems that this record is destined to live for a short time.
