In 2027, the cult film series "Star Wars" celebrates its 50th anniversary, and Lucasfilm is preparing a truly nostalgic gift: from 30 April in cinemas will return to the original film "A New Hope", with which in the distant 1977 all and began.

Here's What We Know

The re-release is timed to coincide with May the 4th (4 May), which is traditionally considered the unofficial holiday of the franchise. The retro screening will run for a limited time - and will be part of a massive anniversary programme that Lucasfilm will stretch throughout the year.

Details are being kept secret for now. All that is known is that it's a "theatrical version", but without specifying whether it's the original 1977 film or the edited "Special Edition" from 1997. The restored version was previously shown at the BFI Festival in London, and fans are hoping that this is the one that will be released.

It also became known that in April 2027 in Los Angeles will be held Star Wars Celebration - the largest official fan event of the franchise. It coincides with the release of Star Wars: Starfighter, which Disney and Lucasfilm plan to release as early as 28 May. It will be a new story in the universe, not tied to the Skywalker legacy - for those who are tired of the endless prequels and sequels.

Thus, Lucasfilm is not only appealing to the old-school love of fans, but also setting a course for the future - with new films, new storylines, but still the same space vibe that began exactly 50 years ago.
