Apple has encountered significant difficulties in integrating the AI functions of the Siri voice assistant. The work on this project was announced in 2024, but the corporation failed to achieve decent results and will not realise the announced capabilities until next year.

However, the company continues to work actively and may even equip Siri with its own AI search engine.

Here's What We Know

In a new issue of the weekly Power On news digest, authoritative insider and Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman reported that Apple has formed a team that is developing an AI-based search engine for Siri, which will replace ChatGPT.

Recall that at the moment the voice assistant sends those requests that can not process independently, the chatbot from OpenAI, and he is already looking for the necessary information and provides the user with an answer to his request.

Similar systems are already used by other companies, for example, Perplexity service and AI Overview function from Google.

The situation is complicated by the fact that Apple has never developed its own search engine, because for many years in its ecosystem the default search engine was Google, for which the company received tens of billions of dollars annually. Now, as part of the fight against monopolies, the US Department of Justice is trying to break the deal between the American giants, forcing Apple to come up with its own solution, which will be applied not only in Siri, but also in the Safari browser and Apple Spotlight.
