Rare Studios is celebrating 40 years since its founding!

The company is known as the developer of iconic games for Nintendo 64 and Xbox, the most famous of which are Battletoads, Donkey Kong Country, Banjo-Kazooie, GoldenEye 007, Donkey Kong 64 and Star Fox Adventures.

But above all, the British studio became famous for its online pirate action game Sea of Thieves.

Within the framework of Rare's anniversary celebration gamers were prepared some interesting surprises.

Here's What We Know

Firstly, Microsoft, which acquired the studio in 2002 for a then-record sum of $375 million, released a dynamic background for Xbox, which reminds of the most famous Rare games.

Secondly, 8BitDo, which is a manufacturer of popular gamer accessories, released its first wireless gamepad for Xbox, PC, Apple and Android, which features a unique Rare-inspired design. It is already on sale at a price of $90.

Thirdly, Smugglers' Tide season will kick off in Sea of Thieves from 14 August with festive activities: players will have the opportunity to loot a unique ruby hat and ruby eye patch.

Sea of Thieves Community Weekend will begin on 30 August. Players can expect Twitch Drops, a community flag, a Paper Cutout emote, a Ruby Legend trophy ship's bow, and co-operative activities like Pop-Up Plunder and photo zones. And an updated Rare All-Stars EP will be released on Spotify on 15 August.

In addition, fans will be offered anniversary merch, avatars, and iam8bit will release a vinyl collection featuring four vinyl records with soundtracks from classic Rare games. The album will receive a vibrant cover featuring favourite characters, designed by artist Lewy Jones, and a full-size slipcase. The price of the collectible records is $100.
