New record: Chevy Silverado EV Work Truck travelled 1,059.2 miles (1,600 km) on a single charge
Officially, the 2026 Chevrolet Silverado EV Max Range Work Truck has a range of up to 493 miles (729 km) on the EPA cycle. However, the production vehicle managed to travel 1,059.2 miles (1,600 km) on a full charge in tests conducted by General Motors engineers. This achievement broke the world record of 749 miles (1,200 km) set by Lucid earlier this summer.
Here's What We Know
The GM team tested the production Silverado EV Max Range WT on public roads near GM's test facility in Milford, Michigan.
The Chevy Silverado EV's hardware and software remained intact. Only driving habits and minor adjustments to settings had to be changed, within the limitations of the model's owner's manual.
- Drivers were advised to maintain an average speed of 20-25 mph (32.2-40.2 km/h) and to minimise hard braking and acceleration.
- there were no passengers in the car for most of the test.
- The windscreen wipers were set to the lowest acceptable position to reduce drag.
- tyres were inflated to the maximum allowable pressure to reduce rolling resistance.
- the spare wheel was removed to reduce weight
- wheel angles were optimised
- an additional boot lid was fitted to optimise airflow
- the climate control was switched off for the duration of the test.
- The test was conducted in summer to determine the optimum ambient temperature for battery efficiency.
After the record-breaking run, participants connected a 3D printer to the electric Silverado and used it to print a small trophy in honour of the achievement.
