Samsung to introduce Wi-Fi 8 in new smartphones to improve signal stability

Samsung has already started to equip its top models (for example, the Galaxy Z Flip 7) with Wi-Fi 7 support, but the Wi-Fi 8 standard (IEEE 802.11bn, Ultra High Reliability) is already in development. It is focused on stability and reliable connectivity even in areas with a weak signal - unlike its predecessors, which competed for peak speed.

Wi-Fi 8 is expected to be available in Galaxy devices closer to 2028-2029. That is, Samsung could start introducing this technology as early as 2028, and the Galaxy S29 will almost certainly be released with Wi-Fi 8 support.

Samsung is a key donor and actively cooperates with the Wi-Fi Alliance, so it is always at the forefront of technological progress.

Technologies expected in Wi-Fi 8

  • Single Mobility Domains - reduces the number of dropouts when switching between different access points
  • Coordinated Spatial Reuse (CSR) - adaptive power, shared channels: increases throughput in densely populated networks by 15-25% (ITC.ua).
  • Dynamic Sub-Channel Operation (DSO) allows faster devices to receive more spectrum. In some cases, the performance increase is up to 80 per cent.
  • Energy efficiency - thanks to adaptive resource allocation, Wi-Fi 8 uses the device's battery more economically, extending its autonomy.

If earlier the competition was to increase peak speeds or reduce delays, now the technology is facing a new challenge. The saturation of the radio airwaves in apartment buildings means that devices cannot reach the maximum speed they are capable of. New technologies allow the router to fully analyse the frequency resource and requests from devices, allowing it to redistribute power flexibly and intelligently.
