Not long ago, General Motors planned to make Cadillac an all-electric brand by the end of this decade, but last year abandoned the idea. And now it has been revealed which model will retain the petrol engine after 2030.

Here's What We Know

The Detroit Free Press has in its possession a memo to UAW union workers. From it follows that the production of the XT5 SUV will continue until the end of 2026 instead of the planned end of the life cycle at the end of this year. Then there will be an updated version for the 2027 model year and it will still be powered by a petrol engine. Incidentally, the XT5 is Cadillac's second best-selling model after the Escalade.

GM will continue to produce the Cadillac XT5 in Spring Hill, Tennessee, next door to the Lyriq and Vistiq electric SUVs.

Cadillac claims to be the leading luxury electric vehicle brand in the U.S. with a full line of electric SUVs. It includes the Optiq, Lyriq, Vistiq and the larger Escalade IQ and IQL.

In the first half of 2025, nearly 25 per cent of Cadillac vehicles sold in the US were electric. XT5 sales were more than 12,700 and Escalade sales were more than 24,300.
