Rumour: Volkswagen is going to discontinue the Touareg from production
Insiders have told publication Autocar that production of the Volkswagen Touareg will cease in 2026 with no direct replacement. It is claimed that the company will instead focus on creating a line-up of more affordable models for a wide range of buyers.
Here's What We Know
The Touareg was introduced in 2002. The Volkswagen model was developed alongside the first-generation Porsche Cayenne, using the same platform and fulfilling the dual purpose of giving Porsche its first SUV and helping former Volkswagen chairman Ferdinand Piëch realise his ambitions to elevate the Volkswagen brand with premium models such as the Touareg and its Phaeton sedan.
Volkswagen isn't abandoning European buyers who want something more. Last October, the company introduced the Tayron, available in two-row and three-row configurations.

Along with the Touareg, VW has also decided to drop the ID 5 electric model from its line-up, which has been left in the shadow of the more popular ID 4. According to information not yet officially confirmed, the last model year for the electric car will be 2027.
