Amazon started selling Pixel Tablet Pen, a stylus from Google that was never released (photo)
At the end of last year, it was reported that Google was working on a branded stylus for its tablets. This stylus was never announced - the company stopped developing it and cancelled its release. Now, it is being sold on Amazon. Numerous photos and videos have already flooded the web. Given the fact that the stylus has full branded packaging, the device was cancelled at a late stage of development.
The model number is GM0KF, and it's not a problem to find and buy it so far. The design is restrained, in ivory or dark grey shades, with a physical button on top. It works via the USI 2.0 standard, which is supported by Google Pixel Tablet. It is sold for about $25, which is a great price, but it should be borne in mind that its price would be significantly higher when official sales are launched.
The stylus works without any settings or synchronisation - just start writing or tapping on the interface elements. But pressing a button doesn't work. Probably, the company did not have time to implement this functionality. The stylus is charged via USB-C, which is present on the body.
Google has not commented on the availability of this Pixel Tablet Pen. It seems that we will never know the story of the appearance and cancellation of this device.
Sometimes it happens that companies cancel the release of certain products, but usually this happens at the stage of early prototypes, and they rarely leave the walls of the company's RD labs. But here we see an almost finished product, at least physically. It remains a mystery what prompted Google to pull the plug at the last minute. This may be due to the fact that the Google Pixel tablet itself is in limbo and it is unknown whether a new version will ever be released.
