Another Blizzard loss: Diablo franchise head Rod Fergusson has left his post
Another valuable employee has left Blizzard - gaming industry veteran and Diablo franchise general producer Rod Fergusson.
Here's What We Know
In his X post, Fergusson did not specify the reason for his departure, limiting himself to the standard polite curtsies towards his colleagues:
After five years of working on the Diablo franchise and four major releases, it's time to take a step aside and see what's next. The teams are poised for success with exciting projects ahead. I'm proud of what we've created together and look forward to what the future holds for Diablo and for myself.
As a reminder, Fergusson joined Blizzard in 2020 after leaving The Coalition studio, where he worked on all parts of the Gears of War series. Rod Fergusson has a reputation as an experienced crisis manager who gets involved in the most difficult situations and saves development, such as what happened with BioShock Infinite. His contribution to the creation of Diablo 4 can hardly be overestimated, the game has had a successful launch, receives regular updates and is very popular.
Xbox head Phil Spencer has expressed his gratitude to Fergusson for his work on the sequel to the iconic series:
You brought power, hellfire and vision to one of the most iconic franchises in gaming. Playing Diablo IV with you has been a real pleasure - thank you for everything you've done for the game and the community.
Now I wonder who Fergusson will be saving this time around, maybe BioShock 4?
