Kuxiu M30: a new magnetic iPad charger that Apple hasn't made yet

Kuxiu has unveiled the M30 Magnetic Smart Connector Charger, a miniature iPad charger that connects via the Smart Connector and allows you to charge your device without taking up the USB-C port.

Here's What We Know

Kuxiu has clearly decided that the iPad deserves "its" MagSafe. The M30 weighs just 65g (1.98oz), almost half the weight of the familiar MagSafe drive, and charges up to 35W (for the iPad Pro on the M4 chip) or 18W (for other models with Smart Connector charging support). A built-in magnet holds the charger firmly to the back of the tablet, and a 2m (6.56ft) braided cable is included.

The main idea behind the M30 is to free up USB-C for accessories, SSDs, adapters, and other peripherals, while retaining fast charging capabilities. This is especially useful when working with attached drives or external monitors, when the port is usually busy. Sales have already started on Kuxiu's official website at a price of $40 USD.

The list of supported devices:

  • iPad Pro 13″ (M4, 2024)
  • iPad Pro 11″ (M4, 2024)
  • iPad Pro 12.9″ (3 / 4 / 5 / 6 Gen)
  • iPad Pro 11″ (1 / 2 / 3 / 4 Gen)
  • iPad Air 13″ (M3 / M2)
  • iPad Air 11″ (M3 / M2)
  • iPad Air 10.9″ (4 / 5 Gen)

Not suitable for iPads without Smart Connector or without support for charging via Smart Connector.

Context

Apple itself doesn't offer anything like this yet, so the niche is being filled by third-party manufacturers like Kuxiu. The question remains whether Apple will keep the Smart Connector in future models, or whether the M30 will become an accessory for "select" devices.
