IGN editorial staff has compiled another interesting selection of games and this time the journalists have identified the best prequels in the history of the industry.

Here's What We Know

When compiling the rating, the authors were guided by two criteria: the prequel must significantly surpass the original game in technical terms and competently develop and complement its plot and character history.

Experienced gamers will not be surprised by the leader of the top: the best prequel was Red Dead Redemption 2. The 2018 Western surpasses the first part in everything and shows how John Marston came to the point from which the plot of the first RDR starts and complements it.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater can be described in a similar way. The famous stealth action game from Hideo Kojima wowed gamers with its unprecedented attention to detail, complex game mechanics and incredibly dramatic plot, which brings the global story of Metal Gear to the events of the first parts of the series and reveals the motivations of Big Boss and other important characters.

The third line of IGN's prequel ranking was occupied by Deus Ex: Human Revolution. The 2011 game from Eidos Montreal was received with mixed reviews at release, but over time gamers have grown to love it for its gripping storyline filled with drama, intrigue and global conspiracies. Human Revolution perfectly complements the story of the iconic Deus Ex (2000) from famous game designer Warren Spector, telling how the Illuminati gained unlimited power over states and mega-corporations.
