The Khyzhak (Predator) National Patrol Police of Ukraine Brigade shared a video in which their aerial reconnaissance managed to destroy an enemy bomber quadcopter. According to the soldiers, during a morning patrol, they received a signal that an enemy drone was approaching the allied positions.

The operators of the Ukrainian bomber drone quickly moved to the target and hit the enemy vehicle with one precision shot from a VOG-17. The enemy quadcopter crashed in the air before it could drop its ammunition.

The unit notes that this operation was the result of coordinated cooperation with neighbouring units, which helped to avoid losses and save the lives of Ukrainian soldiers.

The use of drone strikes in Russia's war against Ukraine

Drone strikes have become one of the most effective and cheapest tools in the war in Ukraine. Modified quadcopters and multicopters are used to deliver and precisely drop grenades (VOG-17, VOG-25), mines or improvised explosive charges on enemy personnel, equipment and fortifications. The release mechanism is controlled by the operator, which allows you to hit targets in trenches, dugouts or hard-to-reach places without direct contact. When combined with UAV reconnaissance, such drones can operate in real time, destroying even other drones. Both sides of the war are actively using this tactic, upgrading civilian drones or creating special military models, as it allows them to save lives and deliver precision strikes to the enemy at minimal cost.

VOG-17

The VOG-17 is a fragmentation grenade for automatic grenade launchers developed in the USSR in the late 1960s to arm the AGS-17 Flame grenade launcher. It has a calibre of 30 mm, weighs about 280 g and has an effective range of up to 1700 metres. It is equipped with an impact detonator and explodes on contact with the target, hitting it with ready-made fragments within a radius of several metres. In the current war in Ukraine, VOG-17 is widely used not only from regular grenade launchers, but also as a munition for kamikaze drones and drones with drops, which allows for precise strikes on enemy personnel in shelters and trenches.
