Hyundai is preparing a "charged" Tucson N with a hybrid setup with about 300 hp.
Hyundai's N division is adjusting its strategy. In addition to powerful all-electric models such as the Ioniq 5 N and Ioniq 6 N, there will be lighter hybrids in the not too distant future.
Here's What We Know
N Management Group Vice President Joon Park told Autoexpress that vehicles with internal combustion engines will be more manoeuvrable, nimble and interesting compared to conventional versions of Hyundai models.
The flagship of the new line-up will be the Tucson N with a hybrid setup with around 300bhp. Details are still scarce, but according to rumours, such a crossover may get an additional electric motor at the rear and all-wheel drive. A 1.6-litre petrol engine is expected under the bonnet.
According to Pak, hybrid systems in Hyundai's "charged" models will be aimed at maximising performance rather than economy.
The Tucson will be just the first step in N's transition to hybrid technology. Looking ahead, there are "charged" versions of the Kona, as well as electrified i20 and i30 with compact batteries.
