Samsung is sticking to its announced schedule and has released the beta version of One UI 8 firmware based on Android 16 on the Galaxy S24 line of smartphones.

Here's What We Know

Users of the 2024 gadgets from the UK and South Korea can already try out One UI 8, and Galaxy S24 owners from the US and India will soon join them - we're talking about the Samsung Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24 Plus and Galaxy S24 Ultra models.

The size of the update is 3.2GB. In the UK, the firmware is labelled as S92xBXXU9ZYH3, while in South Korea it is S92xNKSU9ZYH3.

Later this week, One UI 8 beta will also become available on the Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6 foldable smartphones, and in September, owners of the Galaxy S23, Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5 and several Galaxy A-series models will join the programme.

A stable version of the update will be released on the Galaxy S25 at the end of September. The flagship S and Z series will receive the update first, followed by mid-budget Galaxy A-series devices. All compatible devices should get One UI 8 by the end of the year.

Flashback

One UI 8 doesn't bring radical changes like One UI 7, but it does include a lot of useful innovations:

  • Improved multitasking: Quick Share got a full-screen mode, Split Screen became more flexible, Samsung Dex allows you to change screen resolution and orientation.
  • Personalisation: live wallpapers change depending on the time of day, new routines - morning briefing, umbrella reminder and others.
  • App updates: Gallery automatically sorts screenshots, My Files filters files by download source, Weather and Reminder have been redesigned, and Calendar is now integrated with reminders and allows you to drag and drop tasks.
  • Privacy and accessibility: Secure Folder supports a separate fingerprint and can be completely hidden, and new zoom and control features have been added.
  • Other improvements: Camera lets you customise gestures, Bluetooth lets you connect devices via QR code, Samsung Health compares sports achievements with friends, and alarms can now be grouped and managed from the home screen.
