A hacker who examined Tesla firmware version 2025.20 for the Model S and Model X has discovered that the company is preparing to switch to Unreal Engine to display interior visualisations, including Autopilot and FSD features.

Here's What We Know

Unreal Engine, originally developed by Epic Games for games, has been heavily promoted to the auto industry in recent years. It's already being used by Rivian, Ford, GMC, Volvo and Lotus.

Judging by the Tesla firmware code, we're talking about Model S and Model X with AMD chips, so not all Tesla electric cars will immediately abandon the current Godot engine.

Despite the simplicity and efficiency of Godot, Unreal Engine will provide more detailed graphics. In addition, the transition could open up the possibility of introducing 3D Google Maps and Apple Maps.
