Minus another Live-service! Analyst confident in the cancellation of online shooter Fairgame$ and the failure of Sony's bet on online gaming
Betting on game-services has been one of PlayStation Studios' major failures, with around thirteen such projects in development at one point, which have either been cancelled or gone into production hell.
It is known that Sony refused to create online games for franchises such as God of War, The Last of Us, Twisted Metal and Marvel's Spider-Man, and the extravagant failure of Concord, on which they spent 8 years and hundreds of millions of dollars, was the final confirmation of the failure of the strategy of the Japanese developer.
Here's What We Know
One of the service games still in development is the online shooter Fairgame$ from Haven Studios, but there are storm clouds over this game too, as the first testers were horrified by its quality, and the company was left by its founder and manager Jade Raymond - ex-producer of the Assassin's Creed series.
Sony has yet to announce the cancellation of Fairgame$, but respected analyst Michael Pacter argues in his new video that this is the decision the company has come to. He believes that the bet on service games failed due to the lack of a clear strategy and a team of experienced producers and game designers who understand service games and know how to make them competitive against the numerous popular titles. In fact, PlayStation Studios' only successful online game is the shooter Helldivers II, which was produced by Arrowhead Game, a studio not part of Sony's internal teams.

The latest Fairgame$ news was reported by insider Jeff Grubb, who said that the developer had made a non-public decision to delay the shooter's release to 2026, but now all indications are that it won't happen.
