Tesla Optimus robots will have displays from Samsung

Tesla has not only ordered AI6 chips from Samsung Foundry for $16.5 billion, but it seems that the deal has also extended to OLED panels. Samsung Display will start supplying 8-inch OLEDs to Tesla in 2027. Currently, Tesla buys 8-inch LCD panels only for the rear seats of some car models. It is possible that the company is going to replace them with OLEDs, but it is more likely that these panels will be used for face imaging in the next generation of Tesla Optimus robots.

Leaks about the Optimus Gen 3 suggest that the 2026 model will have an external display on the face - and OLED is exactly what we need: lighter, thinner, does not require backlighting, can be made in any shape, and black pixels will be almost invisible.

What is Optimus?

Optimus (Tesla Bot) is a versatile humanoid robot that will be unveiled in 2022. Currently, Tesla uses it for a wow effect during exhibitions and presentations. Most likely, the company sees it as an investment in the future - someday it will become skilful and adaptive enough to be sold as a personal assistant.
