Ford Transit SuperVan 4.2 is faster than Mustang GTD at the Nürburgring

In May 2025, the Ford Mustang GTD became the fastest American-built production car at the legendary Nürburgring in Germany with a 6:52.072 minutes per lap. But that result has now been surpassed by a very different Ford - the Transit SuperVan 4.2 electric van.

Here's What We Know

Romain Dumas was behind the wheel and the best lap time was 6:48.393. This makes the SuperVan 4.2 the ninth fastest car in Green Hell history, ahead of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS and Corvette ZR1X, which recently left the Mustang GTD behind.

Of course, the SuperVan 4.2 can't be called a production car: it's a unique technology demonstrator with a 2,000 horsepower powerplant and a bunch of racing technology. Nevertheless, the fact that it was a van that set the record is particularly outstanding.

The SuperVan had already shone on Pikes Peak, the Top Gear circuit and the Goodwood hillclimb, so success at the Nürburgring was only a matter of time. The race was also symbolised by history: in the early 2000s, Sabine Schmitz said on Top Gear that even in a Ford Transit she would have driven the Northern Loop faster than Jeremy Clarkson in a Jaguar S-Type. That didn't happen, though, but Schmitz's skills resulted in a best lap time of 10:12 minutes.
