Google has upgraded Files for Android - the file manager has received a complete interface update in the style of Material 3 Expressive. The app has become more colourful, agile and user-friendly: now with carousels, parallax and a new animation that turns a simple file opening into a little show. The update is already available and is gradually being sent to users' devices.

What's changed

  • a new Material 3-style carousel with a parallax effect
  • updated toolbar instead of two floating buttons - more convenient for Quick Share and scanning
  • support for Circle to Search directly from the image view
  • updated grids and lists - larger and clearer previews
  • navigation bar is now narrower and tidier
  • progress bar in the form of "waves"
  • increased readability and faster search for elements (Google says - 4 times faster)

Since Google got serious about unifying Android's design in version 4.0, a lot of changes have been introduced. Even the Material Design, which we first saw in Android 5.0, has been tweaked from time to time. This year, Google implemented the Expressive design generation, which focuses on movement and airiness. The company updates its own applications one by one and recommends that third-party developers do the same.
