OpenAI has launched the cheapest tariff plan locally for the price of a couple of cups of coffee
The rumours were confirmed, OpenAI presented ChatGPT Go - the most affordable subscription to its service, available exclusively in India so far. It costs ~$4.6, which is much cheaper than previously expected.
Main features of ChatGPT Go
Users get 10 times the limit of messages, generated images, and file uploads. Extended session memory - information is stored 2 times longer than in the free version.
Interestingly, unlike the Plus tariff plan, users only have access to the GPT-5 model. Users will not be able to choose another model, such as the popular previous GPT-4o model. Sora (video generation from text description) is also not available.
Why It Matters
This is a strategic launch for India, one of the largest, most dynamic and price-sensitive markets. The idea to reduce profitability by getting millions of new paid users is definitely a good one.
OpenAI has been testing the new tariff plan for several months. At the time, it was assumed that it would cost $10 per month in order not to draw many users away from the $20 per month Plus plan. It was expected to be launched simultaneously with the announcement of GPT-5, but this did not happen. This may be due to the fact that the company will roll it out gradually in certain regions to avoid creating critical load surges. There is currently no official information on the availability of this tariff plan in other regions.
