Rumour: Sony will hold a PlayStation Showcase or State of Play in September
Today - 19 August - the grand opening ceremony of Europe's largest gaming exhibition gamescom 2025 will take place. This year's event will be attended by about 1500 participants, including almost all the giants of the gaming industry - Nintendo, Xbox, 2K, Bandai Namco, Bethesda, Blizzard Entertainment, Capcom, CD Projekt Red, Krafton, Level Infinite, The Pokémon Company, Ubisoft, Electronic Arts, Konami, Lego, Marvelous Europe, Netflix, Paramount, Sega, Tencent Games.
However, Sony will once again ignore gamescom. However, this does not mean that fans of its games will be left without a major show.
Here's What We Know
Reputable insider Jeff Grubb has revealed that Sony will hold its own event in September. It will be either a full-fledged PlayStation Showcase, or a large-scale State of Play - the informant does not yet know what format the Japanese company will choose, but it is sure that some show will definitely take place.
As for games, the nearest Sony release will be the action game Ghost of Yotei - it will be released on the 2nd of October and it is impossible to imagine the September show without it. Insomniac Games is also continuing to work on Marvelʼs Wolverine, which was announced in 2021 and has never been shown since. This game is expected to release in 2026, so it's time for the publisher to step up its marketing campaign.
