New generation tank battles: what is known about World of Tanks: HEAT - Wargaming's upcoming online game
Wargaming, the renowned developer and publisher of online games behind the iconic World of Tanks and World of Warships, has announced its new project at Gamescom 2025: World of Tanks: HEAT. This is a standalone, free-to-play tactical shooter set in an alternate era after the Second World War. The game promises to bring tactical tank battles to an even faster and more explosive format, where players will control unique characters in combat vehicles in dynamic 10-on-10 battles.
Here's What We Know
World of Tanks: HEAT is distinguished by its approach to gameplay. Instead of the usual tanks, players will control experimental vehicles, each of which has unique abilities, extensive customisation options and the potential to dominate the battlefield. Players will act as elite Agents - specially trained pilots of these powerful combat vehicles. They will be able to customise each tank to suit their own playstyle, equipping it with modern weapon systems, armour modules, visual enhancements and skills that can change the course of battle.
The game is being developed on Wargaming's new proprietary engine, which promises nice graphics and dynamic cinematic effects.
World of Tanks: HEAT will be available on PC (via Wargaming Game Centre and Steam), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam Deck. This is Wargaming's first full cross-platform release with cross-progression support, allowing players to seamlessly move between platforms while maintaining their progress.

Key features of World of Tanks: HEAT:
- Gameplay for heroes on tanks: Specialised tanks with unique roles and enhanced abilities. Agents add tactical depth with combat and support skills.
- Creating the perfect tank: The tanks in the game are inspired by original designs with creative reinterpretations of post-war vehicles. Players will be able to combine real tanks and period technology to create unique combat vehicles.
- A variety of game modes: Classic shooter modes such as Kill Confirmed, Domination, and Conquest will be adapted for a new and exciting tank experience.
- Free-to-Win monetisation: Instead of the pay-to-win model, Wargaming is focusing on player skill. Monetisation will focus on cosmetic items, battle passes, and time-saving boosters.
The studio promises to provide more information later.
