OpenAI disables Standard Voice in ChatGPT: users outraged
On 9 September, OpenAI will finally disable the standard ChatGPT Voice Mode, which many users have come to love for its calm, balanced and lively sound. It will be replaced only by the faster and more expressive Advanced Voice Mode, which will now be called simply ChatGPT Voice.
Here's What We Know
The decision caused mixed reactions: part of the audience is happy about the technical progress, but a significant number of users are dissatisfied. According to them, the old "Standard" voice was closer to a person, sounded warm and created an atmosphere of trust, while the new one seems "robotic", too fast and even superficial.
Many people complain that Advanced Voice does not reproduce answers verbatim, but retells them in a more free form. As a result, some of the nuances are lost, and the dialogue with the AI looks less meaningful. One of the users wrote: "Standard Voice transmitted answers completely, creating the feeling of an attentive interlocutor. Advanced - as if in a hurry and shortens thoughts".
Nevertheless, the innovation has its supporters. They like the speed of response and more "human" manner of speech. OpenAI says this is just the beginning and the technology will improve. However, the history with the return of old models after criticism shows that the possibility of revival of Standard Voice cannot be ruled out.
Thus, the company is on the verge of another "technological conflict" with users: some demand the familiar and reliable, while others are waiting for innovations. The only question is whether OpenAI is ready to compromise, as it was before.
