Details.
Sony's flagship smartphone, the Xperia 1 VII, went on sale in June 2025, but within a month, numerous complaints about defects appeared. There were massive problems with defective boards, which caused the devices to switch off or reboot cyclically and never switch on again. Initially, Sony advised all users to update the firmware as a matter of urgency, but eventually stopped sales and announced a recall programme.
This situation arose because Sony stopped its own production and used the services of a contractor. In this way, Sony was trying to reduce the losses that its mobile division has been making for many years. This force majeure does not seem to have added to the division's financial stability, and many wondered if Sony was going to join Siemens, LG, Nokia and BlackBerry. Sony has strongly denied a possible exit from the mobile market, saying that they do not sell phones for profit.
Today's announcement clearly confirms the seriousness of Sony's intentions. It is claimed that the company has managed to fix the production process and is already providing free warranty replacement of the affected units. And from Monday, the flagship model will be officially available for purchase in Europe again. So, let's keep our fingers crossed!
