More information is emerging about Google's Pixel 10 line of smartphones.

The manufacturer has confirmed that the new smartphones will feature Battery Health Assistance, which cannot be switched off. This system automatically reduces the charging speed and maximum voltage of the battery as it is used - all for the sake of extending battery life.

Here's What We Know

Battery Health Assistance first appeared in the Pixel 9a, where the feature was also a must-have. It's now being rolled out across the entire Pixel 10 lineup.

Google says that starting at 200 charge cycles and going up to 1,000, the device will gradually reduce the maximum voltage to "stabilise performance and slow battery degradation". This means users may notice a "decrease in battery life and charging speed" after just a few months of active smartphone use.

This approach has drawn criticism not only because the feature cannot be disabled. Users note that, for example, Samsung, OnePlus and OPPO offer longer-lasting batteries, withstanding from 1600 to 2000 cycles before reducing capacity to 80%. Google has that threshold at just 1,000 cycles.

However, the company is confident that in the long run, this solution will help extend the lifespan of smartphones.
