Peugeot 308 update: diesel remains even after restyling
The Peugeot 308 hatchback and station wagon have undergone a planned refresh. The popular model has received a noticeably redesigned design and more efficient powertrains.
Here's What We Know
Externally, the 308 is now closer to the new 3008 and 5008, especially at the front. The petrol engine remains in the range, but is now only offered with a 48-volt mild hybrid system. The 1.2-litre three-cylinder motor develops 145 hp (107 kW) and is paired to a six-speed dual-clutch transmission. The electric motor helps when starting and in traffic jams: in the city, up to 50 per cent of journeys can be made on electric traction without recharging from the mains.
For those who expect more power from the hybrid, there is a version 308 Plug-in Hybrid 195. It combines a 1.6-litre turbo engine (150 hp, 110 kW) and a 125 hp (92 kW) electric motor. The combined output is 195 hp (143 kW). The gearbox is a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The plug-in hybrid's 17.2 kWh battery is located in the floor and provides up to 85 kilometres of travel on the WLTP cycle, significantly more than before. Charging from the 7.4 kW wall station takes about two hours. In everyday city use, such a hybrid is able to drive on electric power most of the time, keeping a petrol reserve for long journeys.
That said, Peugeot is not giving up on diesel. From spring 2026 for 308 will be offered 1.5-litre BlueHDi for 130 hp (96 kW), which is completed with 8-speed "automatic". This version is addressed to those who often drive on the highway and appreciate low consumption and a large range without recharging.
The lineup is completed by an all-electric E-308 with a 156 hp (115 kW) motor and a 58.4 kWh battery. The electric car has a range of up to 450 kilometres. Thus, Peugeot now offers for the 308 all current drive types in the European C-Class.
Orders for the updated Peugeot 308 will start to be accepted in autumn 2025. Production will start at the plant in Mulhouse, France. Prices have not yet been announced: now in Germany, the Hybrid 145 version costs from €34,110, and the diesel version - from €35,390.
Peugeot's concept is obvious: to offer a maximum of versions for different scenarios. Soft hybrid - for the city, rechargeable - for those who can charge at home and drive not far away, diesel - for "truckers", electric car - for those who are ready for full electrification. This versatility makes the 308 one of the key models in the brand's range.
