A Lamborghini Huracan stolen almost two years ago has been recovered in the US. The car from California was found in Denver with the help of artificial intelligence: the owner used ChatGPT and Google to calculate the location of the sports car from Instagram photos.

Here's What We Know

Andrew Garcia of Orange County, California, lost his Huracan as part of a major luxury car theft scheme. The scammers rented cars and never returned them, forging documents and reselling the vehicles. In total, owners of nearly two dozen sports cars and SUVs fell victim to the scheme.

Most of the other victims later got their cars back, but the Lamborghini remained wanted until the owner received an Instagram message. Garcia's contact information was found in the car and asked if the Huracan was for sale? Attached to the message were recent pictures of the car.

Garcia decided to investigate on his own. He uploaded the photos to ChatGPT, used a bunch of Google tools, and managed to gather enough data to locate the car. The trail led to Denver, where police confirmed: it was indeed his Huracan.

Colorado police thanked the owner for being proactive. Auto Theft Prevention Authority spokesman Cale Gould said, "This kind of proactive data work is a big help in finding stolen cars." The investigation into how the Lamborghini ended up in Denver is still ongoing.

Meanwhile, in California, one of the participants in the criminal scheme has been found guilty of theft and embezzlement and is awaiting sentencing. The other will go on trial in October.
