iPhones may get tandem OLED displays like in iPad Pro
Apple may introduce the tandem OLED technology used in the iPad Pro into the iPhone lineup. The technology is actively promoted by LG Display, which insists that Apple will use their technology in future iPhones.
What is tandem OLED?
Tandem OLED is an OLED display made up of two layers. It provides higher brightness, better energy efficiency, and longer durability than conventional OLEDs. There is a simplified version - simplified tandem, where the second layer contains only blue subpixels, and red and green subpixels remain only in the first layer. This design is cheaper to produce and retains the advantages of the technology.
The technology is already actively used on the iPad Pro and allows you to get a very bright picture and not worry that some of the organic LEDs degrade over time.
When to expect the iPhone?
Apple adheres to a two-year development cycle (from prototype to commercial version), so the first iPhone with tandem OLED may appear no earlier than 2028.
LG is actively promoting this technology, and Samsung may join as an alternative supplier. Other manufacturers, such as BOE, may also join in certain markets to ensure production volumes and competitive prices.
