Tesla will have "Low Power Mode" like smartphones
Tesla's upcoming software update is expected to include a feature called "Low Power Mode" - an analogue of the power-saving mode in smartphones. It will allow owners to better control energy consumption when the car is idle and will be a solution to the long-standing problem of so-called vampire drain - when the battery runs out even without using the car.
Here's What We Know
Information about the new feature was found in the code of a fresh version of the Tesla app. There they found lines and commands describing the mode's operation.
Judging by the descriptions, "Low Power Mode" will reduce power consumption in standby mode, but will not switch off the car completely. It will still be possible to wake it up and control individual functions from a smartphone. Tesla warns that even in this mode, the car will continue to use some power for basic functions, display operation and app communication.
To reduce "parasitic" power consumption, features like Sentry Mode, Summon Standby, climate timers and other active services will be disabled. The user will get a single switch that deactivates Dog Mode, Camp Mode, Keep Climate, Keep Accessory Power On and other options.
If "Low Power Mode" is enabled, when attempting to activate, for example, seat heating or Sentry Mode from the app, the system will warn that the function is unavailable. However, some services can be enabled manually, even leaving the general energy-saving mode - Tesla will simply ask for additional confirmation.
There is an option to configure "Low Power Mode" to automatically switch on when the charge drops to a preset level. This will allow you to leave the car for a long time and be sure that the battery does not discharge below the critical value.
The function can be activated not only through the app, but also in the cabin. The appearance of Low Power Mode is expected in the Tesla 2025.32 update, which is currently being tested by the company's employees.
